SYNOPSIS

What is "Railfans Chasing Trains?"
"Railfans Chasing Trains" is a feature documentary that follows three Railfans who, bonded as friends 30 years earlier by their love of trains, reunite for the chase again and embark on a five day journey across four states hunting the "Big Iron" in hopes of capturing the perfect shot and, perhaps, their youth. Will they find it? Utilizing state of the art tools such as GPS tracking to locate trains, Kurt Haubrich, Bill Choiniere and Dan Hunter follow a precisely planned route across Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and into Wyoming racing these giants. Why chase trains? It’s the thrill of the hunt; to feel the overwhelming power of these 20 ton giants up close. Sometimes it’s for a glimpse of a rare type of train or a hard to get to location. It’s a chance to get away from everyday pressures with friends and chase these rail bound giants for sport. Some chase for the romance of life behind the controls of an American workhorse. Whatever their reason, “Railfans Chasing Trains” has captured the essence of who Railfans are and why they love to chase trains.

In this 70-minute documentary, with 50-minutes of bonus special features, these three American midwest Railfans make many stops on their trip: North Platte, Grand Island, and Alliance in Nebraska, to Cheyenne, Wyoming,– some scheduled and others a surprise! The highlight of their trip was finding the elusive TRT-909 Track Renewal Train in action as it laid track along a main line. For 30 years these Railfans have shared their love for the locomotive, which is now captured in this unique and fun documentary. Find out why these Railfans are chasing trains in “Railfans Chasing Trains”.
